Ranchi: A chartered flight took the legislators of the ruling coalition in Jharkhand, United Progressive Alliance, to Raipur to foil the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) bid to poach the law-makers, sources said. Jharkhand is facing a political turmoil because of allegations against Chief Minister Hemant Soren that he extended himself mining lease. He may lose his House membership.

The flight, carrying about 40 law-makers, took off from the Ranchi airport. It arrived at Swami Vivekanand airport in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh.

A local Congress leader said that at the airport, there were buses to take the MLAs to a resort in Nava Raipur.

He, however, did not confirm the number of legislators who arrived in the state. The Congress leader further said that Soren was not accompanying them. The UPA has 49 legislators in the 81-member House.
