Thackeray set to be elected unopposed, Raj Kishore of Congress withdraws name

Mumbai: CM Uddhav Thackeray can be elected unopposed on behalf of Mahaghadi in the Legislative Council elections to be held in Maharashtra. The Congress has decided to withdraw nomination of its candidate Raj Kishore Modi from the elections for the State Legislative Council. This election is scheduled on 21 May.

State Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat has said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is about to become an uncontested Legislative Council Member (MLC) as the Congress is withdrawing the nomination of one of its candidates.

Let me tell you that for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, Congress fielded two candidates and increased the headache of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In this election, Shiv Sena has fielded Uddhav Thackeray and Neelam Gore. Neelam Gore is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. The NCP is also preparing to field its candidates in two seats.

At the same time, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Maharashtra unit president Jayant Patil on Sunday declared Shashikant Shinde and Amol Mitkari as party candidates for the state Legislative Council elections. Mitkari is the state general secretary of NCP, who played an important role in last year’s assembly elections.

Shinde, who lost the election from the Koregaon assembly seat in the year 2019, has been made a candidate for the Legislative Council election. Shinde is also in charge of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections this year or early next year. Elections are to be held for nine seats of the Legislative Council in the state.
