Fatehabad (Haryana): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar blew the poll bugle at a rally in Fatehabad district of Haryana on Sunday, calling upon all opposition parties, including the Congress and the Left, to come together and form a joint front to ensure that the Bharatiya Janata Party loses the general elections in 2024.
Should the non-BJP parties come together, they would defeat those who are out to destroy the country, Kumar said at a rally organised by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) to mark the birth anniversary of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal. To gain political benefits, the BJP is creating rift between the Hindus and the Muslims, Kumar said.
It is the handiwork of mischief-makers who create Hindu-Muslim conflict in society, Kumar said, adding that a large number of Muslims chose to stay back in India at the time of Partition in 1947. He reiterated that an opposition front can not be formed without the Congress and Left. The Bihar chief minister called upon those who were present on the dais to forget their anti-Congress stance and work together for making a better India. INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala, Shiromani Akali Dal’s Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Nationalist Congress Party’s Sharad Pawar, the Left leader Sitaram Yechury and the Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant were present at the dais. There was nobody from the Congress.
Kumar, however, asserted that he would not be a contender for the post of Prime Minister.
