Date:

New Delhi: Three major incidents have hit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat. One is related to hooch which has claimed nearly 45 lives in the state where liquor is completely banned and another is linked to an alleged incident of rape by a minister. Still, another incident that also rattled the party is the arrest of its Meghalaya leader Bernard N Marak for running a sex racket in his farmhouse.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has submitted notices seeking a debate in both House of Parliament over the incident of rape. The issue is related to crime against women in a state which the BJP presents as the model of good governance. Rural Development Minister Arjunsinh Chauhan has been accused of violating and of illegally confining a woman for five years.

Expecting Hon’ble @ombirlakota to hand mic to Oppn as SOON as he enters LS on Monday so we can ask PMji to Maafi Maango. Equality before law, Sir! Ominous silence from the Drama Bahu brigade.”

Two Lok Sabha MPs from TMC Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Dola Sen and Rajya Sabha MP Mausam Noor have submitted the notices for a discussion on the issue on Monday. The notices say that there is a need for prevention of crimes against women in the light of the latest incidents. According to reports, the Congress which came under attack from the BJP over its MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s ‘Rashtrapatni’ remark may also move similar notices.
