Ahmedabad: The Congress has sought biodata from those people who are keen on contesting the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. The party, however, exempted the sitting legislators from this condition, sources in the party said on Wednesday. Youth, women and those with clean image will be given preference.

The Congress may announce its first list of candidates by the end of this month, a party leader said. Party’s state president Jagdish Thakor has appealed to the aspirants to submit their biodata to district party offices before September 12. The AICC-appointed committee for Gujarat headed by Kerala legislator Ramesh Chennithala would hold discussions with the in-charges of various zones and the in-charges of various assembly segments.
