Centre should make concerted efforts to solve farmers’ issue: Deve Gowda

New Delhi: JD (Secular) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Thursday urged the Centre to make concerted and continuous efforts to resolve the farmers’ issue arisen out of the three contentious farm laws.

While participating in the discussion on the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s Address, the veteran leader said suppressing the farmers’ movement will not yield results whereas constant dialogue with them definitely would.

Around 90 per cent of the country’s cultivators are marginal owning only one acre or less of land and hence are deprived of the subsidy benefits.

A farmer can avail 50 per cent subsidy while buying a tractor or a high tech equipment which is of no use to a marginal farmer. Farmers of Punjab and Haryana derive the maximum benefits from such subsidies, Mr Gowda added.
