New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma has resigned from the party’s steering committee in Himachal Pradesh, sources said on Sunday. He sent in his resignation letter to party president Sonia Gandhi, saying that he had taken the decision after being side-lined from the working of the state Congress. Himachal Pradesh goes to polls this year. But in charge of the state party affairs Rajeev Shukla did not make any comments on the issue. Party sources said that they were not aware of such a development.

Sharma’s resignation came on the heels of Ghulam Nabi Azad who stood down as the party’s J&K campaign committee head. Azad conveyed his decision to the party leadership, sources said. His resignation came as a surprise, since he was part of many important decisions the party has recently taken. He also took part in the Gaurav Yatra and addressed a press conference when Sonia Gandhi was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Herald Newspaper case. Both Sharma and Azad belong to the G-3 group of the party. The group wants changes in the Congress.
