NEW DELHI – A massive political row has erupted in the national capital today after a video of a Delhi Police inspector alleging heavy political interference in criminal investigations went viral across social media platforms.
The video shows Inspector Rajeev, who was serving as the officiating SHO of Bharat Nagar, expressing frustration over the difficulty of keeping criminals behind bars. His candid remarks have touched a nerve with a public already weary of rising crime rates, while the police department has moved quickly to distance itself from his claims.
The Statement That Went Viral
In the short clip, which has been shared thousands of times on X (formerly Twitter) and WhatsApp, Inspector Rajeev is heard telling a group of people:
“We catch them, but they just go to the CM or the MLAs, and then there is pressure to release them.”
The statement implies a “revolving door” system where local goons use political connections to bypass the law. Within hours of the video surfacing, the hashtag #DelhiPolicePressure began trending, with many citizens praising the officer for his “honesty,” while others called it a serious breach of service discipline.
Department Crackdown
The Delhi Police leadership did not take the comments lightly. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav issued a statement today calling the officer’s remarks “irresponsible” and “baseless.”
According to PTI, Inspector Rajeev has been immediately removed from his post as officiating SHO and transferred to the “District Lines” a move seen as a disciplinary demotion. The department maintains that the officer’s statements do not reflect the reality of how the force operates and that no such political pressure exists.
Political Fallout
The timing of the video is particularly sensitive. With Assembly Elections looming in several states and the city already on edge due to energy concerns and global tensions, the Opposition has latched onto the clip.
“This is the voice of an honest officer who is tired of the system,” one Opposition leader stated in a morning press conference. “If even a SHO-level officer feels helpless against political goons, what hope does the common man have?”
