National“Shut Down McDonald's”: Congress MP Sparks Debate Over Trump’s Ceasefire Claim

Date:

News Desk – During the Parliament debate on Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Deepender Hooda made headlines by dragging McDonald’s into the political discussion. He said that if the US doesn’t stop Donald Trump from making false claims about brokering peace between India and Pakistan, the Indian government should “shut down McDonald’s in India.”

What’s the issue?

Former US President Donald Trump recently claimed that he played a role in stopping a conflict between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. He said that he used trade pressure to get India to agree to a ceasefire.

But India has denied this, saying Pakistan was the one seeking peace, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also rejected Trump’s claim.

Deepender Hooda, speaking in the Lok Sabha, said, “India is a global power. The US cannot treat India and Pakistan as equals.” He urged the government to either confront the US about Trump’s comments or take action like closing down McDonald’s outlets in India as a symbolic warning.

He added, “Love and trade cannot be one-sided. The US must know the strength of the Indian market.”

BJP responds with sarcasm

The BJP mocked Hooda’s comment by posting a video of the moment where Priyanka Gandhi can be seen smiling in the background. “Claim so ridiculous even his party leader cracked up,” said the BJP post.

Later, Hooda defended his remark on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying Trump repeated his claim around the same time he was speaking in Parliament. He said the Indian government must take a strong stand against such false statements.

His message was clear — business and politics can’t be separated, and if the US wants to trade with India, it must also respect India’s sovereignty and truth.
