International Desk – A shocking shooting took place on Monday evening in midtown Manhattan, where 27-year-old Shane Tamura opened fire at a high-rise office building on Park Avenue, killing four people and injuring one.
The Fire Department of New York received a call at 6:28 PM about the shooting. The building, located near major landmarks like Grand Central Station and the Museum of Modern Art, houses top financial firms like Blackstone and even the NFL offices.
Tamura, originally from Hawaii and later based in Las Vegas, was carrying a rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest. According to the police, he entered the building and shot five people, including a New York Police Department officer. Sadly, four of them died, including the officer and three civilians (two men and one woman). One man is still in critical condition.
What happened inside?
Tamura entered the lobby, shot the officer and others hiding nearby, then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, where he shot and killed another person. After that, he shot himself, said New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
Who was Shane Tamura?
Tamura previously worked as a casino security guard in Las Vegas.
He had a valid firearms permit and an expired private investigator license.
A rifle smeared with blood, a revolver, ammunition, and medication were found in his car parked outside.
He had a history of mental health issues but no criminal background, officials said.
Tamura’s vehicle was tracked traveling from Colorado to New Jersey before entering New York City just hours before the attack.
After the shooting, police surrounded the area. Tamura was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The building was cleared, and the situation brought under control.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive, and the investigation is ongoing.
