Anand Mishra, a senior police officer in Assam who worked in a special investigation team in Manipur and was highly popular on social media, resigned. He wants to move from service to independence and freedom, he said in his resignation. An IPS officer of Assam Meghalaya cadres, Anand Mishra, was posted recently to Manipur to be part of SIT probing into state violence. He is a social media sensation and is well-known as Assam Singham by users on social media. 

Who is Anand Mishra? 

He joined as SP of Lakhimpur on May 21 of the year. After Mishra’s resignation letter on social media, speculations about his future steps have been high. A source stated that Mishra is likely to enroll in politics and can contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha ballot from the Buxar constituency under their home State, Bihar. It is known that a phase of top leaders of the ruling party talked with him about this connection for multiple months and proposed he enrolls in the party.

Why did a senior IPS officer resign? 

In his resignation letter, Mr. Misra said he resigned to pursue a lifestyle of “freedom” and “independence.” Before being posted to Manipur, Mr Misra was posted because of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Anand Mishra stated, “Social and personal desires in existence.” “This is to put up my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue an existence of freedom and independence that I need to recognize via numerous social services and another manner that are past the mandate of IPS,” he wrote.

Sources, however, indicated that Mr Misra is in all likelihood to join BJP in his home state, Bihar, and can even contest the overall election the subsequent year. Anand Mishra, the current Superintendent of Police in Lakhimpur district and a renowned officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), formally resigned from his position on January 16, 2024.

 In the resignation letter submitted to the Assam Chief Secretary on December 18, Ananda Mishra stated, “This is to put up my unconditional resignation w. EF 16-01-2024 from the Indian Police Service (IPS) to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I need to recognize through various social services and different method which might be past the mandate of IPS.” In the letter, Mishra cited the “Pursuit of other freedom and independence in existence” as the reason for my resignation.
