Kooner was elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in 2018 and now serves as the member of parliament for the Karanpur constituency.
Gurmeet Singh Kooner, the Congress candidate from Karanpur Assembly for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections, passed away early this morning, according to a phone call from his son to ANI. The party again proposed Kooner for the Karanpur Assembly seat.
He was being treated at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the National Capital. He was seventy-five. His son went on to say that the family had transported the body to his hometown of Sri Ganganagar, a Rajasthani city. As per the hospital’s death certificate, Kooner passed away due to sepsis, septic shock, and renal disease. In addition, he had hypertension. On November 25 (Saturday), elections for the 200-member Rajasthan assembly will take place.
In a message, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot offered his condolences for the death of the senior Congress leader. The passing of former minister and Karanpur MLA Shri Gurmeet Singh Kooner has left me very saddened. Even though he was ill for a long time, Shri Kooner never stopped working toward local development. The Congress Party and Rajasthani politics have suffered an irreversible loss with the passing of Kooner Saheb. I ask God to grant the family courage and serenity for the departed soul.
According to Gehlot, Kooner was elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in 2018 and now represents the Karanpur constituency. In the Assembly elections held in 1998 and 2008, he was previously elected from the constituency. On November 25, Rajasthan will hold assembly elections. On December 3, the results will be tallied. In the 2013 Legislative Assembly elections, the BJP secured 163 seats and took power in Rajasthan. In the 200-member House, the Congress secured 99 seats and the BJP 73 seats in the 2018 assembly elections.
