The “Donate for Desh” initiative, according to AICC treasurer Ajay Maken, is a broad campaign that will house an “array initiative.” In honor of the Congress’s 138th anniversary, the party is promoting contributions in multiples of 138 under the first of these.

The Congress said on Saturday that it will be launching the “Donate for Desh” online crowdfunding campaign on December 18. The campaign is modeled after Mahatma Gandhi’s famous “Tilak Swaraj Fund,” which was established between 1920 and 1921. The announcements were made by Congressmen K C Venugopal and Ajay Maken during a press conference in New Delhi.

As stated by Venugopal, General Secretary of All Indian Congress Committee, “This initiative is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s historic ‘Tilak Swaraj Fund’ and its main objective is to empower our party.

The “Donate for Desh” initiative, according to AICC treasurer Ajay Maken, is a broad campaign that will house a “series of campaigns.” In honor of the Congress’s 138th anniversary, the party is promoting contributions in multiples of 138 under the first of these.

As the 138th Congress year comes to an end, Maken asked her compatriots to contribute Rs 138, Rs 1,380, or 13,800 to the Congress account in order to fortify the body and enable it to work toward improving India.

Maken announced that the online donation links would go live on December 18 in conjunction with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s official campaign launch in New Delhi. He continued by saying that contributions can now be made through two channels: the official INC website and a special online portal.

Maken asked the state-level office bearers of the Congress, elected representatives, the District Congress Committee, the Pradesh Congress Committee, and the All-India Congress Committee to identify potential donors among the party’s supporters and functionaries and endeavor to obtain contributions from them. Maken encouraged all of these groups to make donations of at least Rs 1,380 each. He stated that this calculated approach will guarantee the realization of our vision for a better India.

This announcement, which is presumably based on the online crowdfunding model of its alliance partner, the Aam Aadmi Party, is made in light of the party’s apparent financial difficulties. The BJP declared assets of Rs. 6.046.81 crore in 2023, while the party declared assets of Rs. 805.68 crore. Over the past few years, there has also been a noticeable decrease in the corporate donations to it.

Maken urged all Pradesh Committee leaders to spread the word about the campaign via press conferences and social media, announcing that the party would launch an in-person campaign that would involve volunteers knocking on doors and aiming to reach at least ten homes in each polling place.

He went on to say that in order to receive donation certificates, donors had to be Indian citizens and be older than eighteen.

Anyone in our nation who wants to support the party, join the Congress, and participate in its ideological struggle can do so using this method. In order for the party to be able to strengthen the country, Maken stated, “We invite them to join the Congress and the battle our leaders are fighting, in the role of a strong Opposition.”
