Late at night, Left-Wing Extremists (LWE) in Bihar’s Jamui district slashed the throats of a father and son combo, suspecting them of being police informers. In the past two years, the ultras have slain at least 20 people in the state after accusing them of being security forces spies. Chopay Hembram (60) and his son Arjun Hembram (32), both inhabitants of Baratand village, have been identified as the deceased. A police official said that both of them were murdered in the outskirts of Chakai-Bogi, dominated by Maoists and on the boundary between the Chakai and Charka Patthar district police stations.
According to eyewitness testimony, at approximately 12.30 a.m., an armed squad of proscribed CPI (Maoist) organization rushed into the area and kidnapped the couple from their homes. Even as their family protested their innocence, the bandits pulled the guys out. The Maoists terrorized the residents by firing three blank shots and shouting “Lal Salaam” before fleeing into the mountainous jungle. The kidnapped couple was beaten and their throats slashed before being blasted with bullets, according to police.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar, a Jamui sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), said the locals discovered their dead on Thursday morning in two distinct locations. According to police, the Maoists seemed to cut the duo’s throats before shooting them. Handwritten Maoist posters were also discovered near the scene, stating that the father and son were murdered for serving as police informers.
The message also warned other villages that they would face similar punishments if they chose to be police informants. Villagers and relatives of the dead claim that the police arrived late despite being told of the tragedy. According to the SDPO, an FIR has been filed, and a search operation has commenced in Jharkhand’s Jamui and Giridih districts.
