As part of the COP28 meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Dubai, UAE, on Thursday night to participate in the World Climate Action Summit. As a token of their warm welcome, members of the Indian diaspora in Dubai presented Prime Minister Modi with a traditional dance performance.

The diaspora’s cries include “Modi, Modi,” “Abki baar Modi Sarkar,” and “Vande Mataram,” according to footage released by the news agency ANI. Another video shows Prime Minister Modi chatting and shaking hands with the members.

An Indian diaspora member expressed joy after meeting with Prime Minister Modi, stating, “I’ve been living in the UAE for 20 years, but today, it felt as if one of my own has come to this country…”In ANI’s view, “the diamond of India” embodies India’s international dignity. According to someone else, we are thrilled to have Prime Minister Modi here. Everyone should follow the example set by Prime Minister Modi.

After visiting the Indian community in Dubai, Prime Minister Modi published many photographs and expressed his delight on X, formerly Twitter. I am grateful to the Indian community in Dubai for the extraordinary welcome they extended. He said their enthusiasm and support were signs of our strong bonds and cultural heritage.

Friday marks the beginning of the World Climate Action Summit, the high-level component of COP28. Prime Minister Modi is expected to attend and deliver a speech at its opening session. Plus, he has already committed to three additional prestigious side events.

Before he departed for Dubai, Modi made a statement in which he said that COP28 would provide a chance to evaluate the results of the Paris Agreement and chart a future direction for climate action.

The COP28 Summit is scheduled in the United Arab Emirates from November 30th to December 12th. There is talk that the theme of this year’s COP28 would be the need for a collaborative effort to stop climate change and the necessity for financial assistance throughout the low-carbon transition. One more likely objective is to redistribute money from more developed to less developed countries so that they can fight climate change.

The Indian prime minister had hoped, in the lead-up to the summit, that the United Arab Emirates would inspire fresh momentum towards tangible climate action at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28). In an exclusive interview, the prime minister told the UAE newspaper Al-Ittihad that he believes both India and the UAE are dedicated to collaborating for a brighter, more sustainable future. “We remain steadfast in our joint efforts to influence the global discourse on climate action,” he said.

In continuation of his social media X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his joy when meeting members of the Indian diaspora in Dubai, lauding their enthusiasm and support as proof of our solid cultural links and legacy. I am moved by the tremendous support shown by the Indian community in Dubai. We have a strong bond and an exciting culture; their enthusiasm and support demonstrate that,” he said.
