At the Raj Bhavan complex, Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office and secrecy to Lalduhoma. In Aizawl, the swearing-in ceremony began at 11:00 a.m.

ZPM staked its claim to form a government in the north-east Indian state of Mizoram with 27 seats out of 40 in the recently announced results of the 2023 assembly elections. Lalduhoma won the Serchhip seat in the Mizoram Assembly Election of 2023 and was seated as an MLA. With 8314 votes overall, he received 2982 more votes than J. Everything about Lalduhoma’s political ascent

74-year-old Lalduhoma is a former member of the Indian Police Service (IPS). In 1977, he was chosen for the IPS. He even oversaw former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security in 1982 during his illustrious career. In 1984, he left the IPS and joined Congress as an MP. Later in November 1988, he announced his resignation from Congress and was the first Member of Parliament to be disqualified for defection.

Lalduhoma actively participated in putting an end to the Mizoram insurgency, which made it possible for the Mizoram Peace Accord to be signed in 1986. Later on, he founded the Mizo National Front (Nationalist), which in 1997 changed its name to the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP). As a candidate for the ZNP, he won the assembly polls in 2003.

In order to form the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the Zoram Nationalist Party partnered with six other parties in 2017. Lalduhoma was elected as an independent MLA in the 2018 Mizoram Assembly Elections because ZPM had not yet received recognition from the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI officially recognized ZPM as a political party in 2019. Llduhoma’s MLA eligibility was revoked in 2020 due to the anti-defection statute. He ran for the ZPM in the byelections in 2021 from Serchhip and was victorious.
