The Taliban announced Tuesday that girls in Afghanistan would be allowed to return to school as soon as possible after revealing the remaining posts in its all-male government. “We’re nearing the end of the process. It comes after the education ministry instructed male instructors and students to return to secondary school over the weekend but did not mention female educators or students.

Mujahid also made no mention of the now-defunct ministry of women’s affairs, which was shuttered last week and replaced with a department known for enforcing Islamic orthodoxy during the former Taliban government.
“These posts are vital for the Emirate’s operation,” he added, unveiling the last cabinet appointments, which included increases to the ministry of health.

Despite prior assurances of an inclusive administration for all Afghans, the Taliban interim government’s initial nominations were revealed earlier this month, drawn solely from loyalist ranks, with established hardliners in all critical positions.
