Two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two CRPF personnel have been arrested after a woman from Haryana alleged that she was lured on the pretext of visiting religious places and sexually assaulted at a farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district.
The alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area on the night of September 22. All four accused have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody, police said.
Woman Was Invited for Visit to Religious Places
According to Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav, the woman, a resident of Fatehabad in Haryana, was contacted by a female acquaintance on September 20.
She was allegedly asked to meet a CRPF officer identified as Mohit for a visit to religious places in Amroha.
The woman met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21, after which they travelled to Meerut. There, CRPF Head Constable Lalaram Yadav, a resident of Rajasthan’s Alwar district, joined them.
On the evening of September 22, the two allegedly took the woman towards Hasanpur in a car and picked up Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way.
Taken to Farmhouse on Atrasi-Hasanpur Road
Police said the group then travelled to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road, where two rooms were rented.
According to the woman’s complaint, police Head Constable Pramod arranged food and liquor for the group.
She alleged that Mohit, Lalaram Yadav and Sanjay Tomar sexually assaulted her one after another.
The woman further alleged that Pramod later entered the room and attempted to sexually assault her, but she managed to push him out and lock the door.
Woman Searched Online for Police Helpline
After locking herself inside the room, the woman searched online for a police helpline number and contacted authorities at around 6 am on Wednesday.
Teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations subsequently reached the farmhouse, took her to safety and apprehended all four accused.
“Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against the four accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abduction or enticement and gangrape,” SP Lakhan Singh Yadav said.
He added that all four accused had been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
UP Police Officer Suspended, CRPF Authorities Informed
Police said departmental proceedings have been initiated against Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar following his suspension.
A report has also been sent to senior CRPF authorities recommending disciplinary action against the two paramilitary personnel accused in the case.
Hasanpur Kotwali in-charge Amar Pal Singh said the farmhouse where the alleged crime took place reportedly belongs to an Independent MLA from Uttarakhand.
Police have questioned the manager of the property and further investigation is underway.
Akhilesh Yadav Demands Strict Action
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to the case, criticising the state of law enforcement and demanding strong action against those responsible.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister described the alleged incident as a “stain” on the police force and called for what he termed “historic action” in the case.
Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
