Sushil Chandra takes over as new CEC of India

New Delhi: Mr Sushil Chandra on Tuesday assumed charge as the 24th Chief Election Commissioner of India, succeeding Mr Sunil Arora. Mr Arora demitted the office on April 12 after completing his tenure.

Mr Chandra has been serving in the Commission as Election Commissioner since February 15, 2019, the Election Commission said in a statement. He is also Member of Delimitation Commission since February 18, 2020 looking after Delimitation of Jammu Kashmir UT.

The ECI family bid a warm farewell to outgoing Chief Election Commissioner, Mr Sunil Arora on April 12, the statement said.

After a fulfilling tenure of nearly 43 months in the Commission and nearly 29 months as CEC, Mr Arora demitted office having successfully steered the 17th Lok Sabha election in 2019 and elections to 25 State Assemblies since joining ECI in September 2017.
