Mumbai: A Mumbai special court on Wednesday granted bail to Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August t 1. The ED had raided Raut’s residence on July 31 and arrested him in connection with an alleged money laundering scam arising out of the Patra Chawl redevelopment case of Goregaon.
Raut has spent 101 days in jail.
The court also allowed the bail plea of Raut’s alleged aide, Pravin Raut. The ED arrested both of them on August 1 and lodged them at the Arthur Road jail. It was Raut’s first bail plea since his arrest. He moved the court in September saying that the ED had registered a case to “crush the opposition faced by the ruling party.”
In his plea, Raut said that he has been a senior Shiv Sena leader for over 18 years and the case was a “perfect example of abuse of power and political vendetta.”
