Former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna has come under fresh scrutiny after investigators allegedly found a mobile phone containing dozens of pornographic videos in his jail cell at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
Revanna is currently in prison in connection with a rape case. According to Central Crime Branch (CCB) sources cited by India Today, the phone was recovered during a recent search operation targeting high-profile prisoners.
80-90 Videos Allegedly Found on Phone
Sources said investigators examined the seized phone and allegedly found around 80 to 90 downloaded pornographic videos on it.
Most of the videos were reportedly Indian pornographic content. Police sources also claimed that newspaper clippings showing women in revealing clothes were stored on the device.
Investigators are now carrying out a detailed forensic examination of the phone.
They are checking the videos, images and other digital data to find out where the content came from, when it was downloaded and whether it has any connection with the criminal cases involving Revanna.
Pen Drive and Charger Also Recovered
Apart from the mobile phone, officials also recovered a pen drive and a charger from the cell.
Authorities said no other prohibited items were found during the search, which lasted around four to five hours.
A fresh FIR has been registered following the recovery. An undertrial prisoner identified as Pratap Rai, who was lodged in the same prison, has also been named in the case.
Jail Officials Face Action
The recovery has also led to action against prison officials.
The Assistant Superintendent of the jail has been suspended, while the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison has been issued a show-cause notice.
High Court Recently Rejected Revanna’s Plea
The development comes days after the Karnataka High Court rejected Revanna’s request for suspension of his life sentence and interim bail in the first rape case registered against him in Hassan district.
The High Court referred to the seriousness of the offence and the fact that multiple sexual abuse cases are still pending. It also raised concerns that his release could affect witnesses and ongoing trials.
Revanna was convicted by a special court in August 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment for repeated sexual assault, voyeurism and destruction of evidence.
The case had attracted nationwide attention after explicit videos allegedly involving him surfaced before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Revanna has denied the allegations and claimed that the videos were morphed.
His appeal against the conviction is pending before the Karnataka High Court. His legal team has also approached the Supreme Court seeking the transfer of one of the cases to another judge, alleging bias.
Investigators will now focus on how the mobile phone reached the prison cell, how it was being used and the digital material recovered from it. The forensic examination is expected to help determine the next course of action in the fresh case.
