New Delhi: On the global hunger index India’s rank is 107th out of 121 countries across the world and the country comes under the “serious” category, according to a report published on Friday.

The report says that Asia’s third-largest economy fared worse than other South Asian countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Nevertheless, last year, India’s ranking was 101and 94th in 2020. The German-based Welthungerhilfe and Dublin-based Concern worldwide, which ranks countries by “severity”, gave India a score of 29.1. It falls under the “serious” category. The index has five levels of hunger. They are low, moderate, serious, alarming and extremely alarming. Based on data from 2019-2021, 16.3% of India’s population was undernourished.
