New Delhi: Vidya Rani, the daughter of notorious smuggler Veerappan, has been appointed as the vice-president of the Tamil Nadu BJP Yuva Morcha by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Vidya Rani joined BJP in February this year.
Assembly elections are due in Tamil Nadu next year. In such a situation, L Murugan, who took over as state BJP president in March this year, wants to expand the party in the state. These appointments have been made under this. Apart from this, Geeta, the adopted daughter of AIADMK founder Ramachandran, who joined BJP in 2017, and R Praveen, the grandson of MC Chakrapani (brother of Ramachandran) and actress Radha Ravi, have been appointed as members of the party’s state executive committee.
Stories like the dreaded Chandan smuggler Veerappan in Tamil Nadu are still in people’s minds today. Veerappan kidnapped Kannada actor Rajkumar in 2000 and H. Nagappa, a former Minister of Karnataka in 2002. On 18 October 2004 Veerappam was shot dead by the police.
