NationalNever promised to restore Article 370: Azad

Date:

Srinagar: Senior politician Ghulam Nabi Azad who has recently resigned from the Congress said on Sunday that he had not promised restoration of the Article 370 in his political agenda, because he is averse to making false promises. At a public meeting in Baramulla town in north Kashmir, Azad said that 350 votes would be required in the Lok Sabha and 175 in the Rajya Sabha to restore Article 370. It was his first public meeting after he left the Congress.

No political party has this number or is likely to get in future and since the Congress has only 50 seats in the Lok Sabha, its talking about restoring the Article 370 is nothing but a false promise, Azad said. His agenda consists of restoration of statehood, land and jobs for locals. According to Azad, some people have blamed him for voting in favour of abrogation of  Article 370, for which the Union Home Minister had brought the motion.

Azad said that he had voted against abrogation of Article 370 and that as some people had no idea about the functioning of Parliament, they criticised him for voting in favour of the motion. He said that when he had been the chief minister of the state, he got 13 policemen arrested for staging a fake encounter, they are still in jail. He also counted the development work done during his tenure as chief minister.
