Lucknow: After the promulgation of the illegal conversion ordinance, the number of such cases is increasing continuously in UP. After the law came into force on November 27, 2020, 50 cases of conversion have been registered, in which charge sheets have also been filed in 20. Most of these cases have been registered in Meerut zone. In a way, it can be said that Meerut zone is becoming a stronghold of illegal conversions.
State ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that after the ordinance came into force on November 27, 2020, 50 cases have been registered so far, in which the police have also filed chargesheets in 22 cases, while investigation is going on in 25 cases. So far, in only three cases, the police have submitted the final report. Maximum 12 cases of illegal conversions have been registered in Meerut zone. After this, the second number is of Bareilly zone where 10 cases have been registered, while 7 in Gorakhpur zone, 5 in Noida commissionerate, four each in Lucknow commissionerate and Varanasi zone, 3 in Agra zone, 2 in Prayagraj zone and one case has been registered in Kanpur commissionerate.
