New Delhi: The Indian women’s recurve team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari won the gold medal by defeating Mexico in the final of the third leg of the Archery World Cup here on Sunday. With the Indian trio winning the title, the disappointment of a first-round loss in the last qualifier of the Olympics earlier this month has been somewhat overcome. Their 5-1 win gave India its second gold medal in the third leg of the World Cup.
Earlier on Saturday, Abhishek Verma won India’s first gold medal in the compound individual event. Let us tell you that the Indian women’s team had traveled to the final by defeating a team like France in the semi-finals. The team had missed out on qualifying for the Olympics last week and with this gold medal, it tried to ease the disappointment.
The performance of the Indian team was excellent, in which the score was 57-57 in the first set. In the second set, Mexico’s team trailed by three points after scoring 52 points.
The Indian team was ahead 3-1 and scored 55 points in the third set as well, but the Mexican team could not match and lost the third set by one point. In this way, he had to face the second consecutive defeat this year.
Apart from this, the star couple pair of Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari has done wonders to win the gold medal by defeating Netherlands in the mixed recurve team event.
