Jaipur (Rajasthan): A man lopped off the feet of a 108-year-old woman to steal a silver anklet that the woman was wearing, the police said on Wednesday. The incident took place near the Galta Gate area in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, on Sunday night. The woman identified as Jamuna Devi died at a hospital because of excess bleeding. She was living with her granddaughter.

The man barged into the house when there was no one there and dragged the woman to the bathroom constructed outside her residence. He then chopped off her feet and escaped. The police arrested the man identified as Prakash on Tuesday. When the family members of Jamuna Devi did not find her in the house, they heard her groaning emerging from the bathroom. They also found her chopped-off feet.

Her kin rushed her to Sewai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur where she died on Tuesday. Sources in the police said that the murderer was a tenant in the old woman’s house a few years ago. He committed the crime to pay his debt of Rs 4 lakh.
