Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s statement that if Rajasthanis and Gujaratis were removed from Maharashtra, Mumbai would no longer be the financial capital of the country has kicked up a row across the state. Reacting to his comments, former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that the Governor had insulted the Marathi people. He made the statement at a press conference at his residence “Matoshree” on Saturday. Thackeray said that his statement shows his mindset against the Marathi people.

The former chief minister urged the Governor to apologise to the people of Maharashtra. Koshiyari made the statement at a function. He said, “I tell people here that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Maharashtra, especially from Mumbai and Thane, you have no money and Mumbai will not be a financial capital.” The Governor took part in a naming ceremony of a Chowk in Andheri, Mumbai. According to a release issued from Raj Bhawan, the Governor praised the contribution of Rajasthanis and Gujaratis to make Mumbai the financial capital of the country.
