The district administration has freed 16 laborers from Vijayraghavgarh of Katni, who went to harvest sugarcane at the Harli factory in the Gadhiganj police station area of Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. The laborers were sent by the contractor for sugarcane harvesting, but there the laborers were being made hostage.
Also, they were not being given wages. After getting this information from Collector Avi Prasad, he contacted the Collector and SP of Kolhapur district. After this Kolhapur Collector and SP instructed the contractor to send the laborers back to their homes immediately. After which all 16 laborers have been sent back. Laborers are coming back to Katni by train.
According to the information, on December 21, Savitri Bai, a resident of Umbra village, reached the collectorate and informed that 20 laborers from Vijayraghavad had been taken to the Harli factory in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra by a contractor named Vilas for the work of sugarcane harvesting. Where laborers are being forced to work. The laborers are being given only food, wages are not being given.
Work is being done by taking the laborers hostage. In exchange for sending them back, a demand of two to five lakh rupees is being made. 4 laborers have somehow managed to reach there. He has informed us about the harassment being given to the laborers.
After the complaint, Collector Avi Prasad wrote a letter to the Kolhapur Collector and SP urging them to send back the laborers of the district. After this, the Kolhapur district administration sent all the laborers back from the factory to Katni. All the laborers are coming to Katni by train.
