Jaipur: A 35-year-old Dalit woman teacher, set ablaze at Jamrao in Rajasthan on Tuesday, succumbed to burns at a hospital in Jaipur on Wednesday, the police said on Thursday. One week has passed since a Dalit student was killed for drinking water from a pitcher meant for the upper castes. The incident has kicked up a row among the people of the Dalit community in the state.
The woman Anita was burnt following dispute with her relatives over money. She died at the SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
The teacher entered into heated exchange with her kin for their failure to pay the money they had borrowed from her. When she asked them to pay the money, her relatives sprinkled some inflammable substances on her and set her afire on August 10. She was rushed to Jamrao Ramgarh hospital from where she was referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur. She died on August 17.
