NationalJustice UU Lalit appointed as 49 Chief Justice of India

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu appointed Justice Uday Umesh Lalit as the 49th Chief Justice of India, signing this warrant of appointment Wednesday. He will take over on August 27 when the present Chief Justice of India NV Ramana demits office the day before. Justice Lalit will have a brief tenure of 74 days and demit office on November 8 when he turns 65.

Present Chief Justice NV Ramana recommended the name of Justice UU Lalit as his successor and it happened after Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju sought Ramana’s recommendations for his successor.
