Ranchi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lost power in Bihar after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar snapped ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). It was, therefore, expected that the ruling party at the Centre would make all efforts to destabilise the Jharkhand government. The Election Commission of India is all set to nullify Hemant Soren’s membership of the Jharkhand House in connection with mining scam, sources said. Soren is running a coalition government.

Ergo, there is a political turmoil in the state. As a result, the legislators of the ruling coalition in the state were shifted to Latratu, 60km from Ranchi on Saturday. It was expected that the BJP would launch an Operation Lotus in the state to oust the Soren-led government. Earlier in the day, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition partners held a meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence to decide their strategy. Sources close to JMM said that 42 legislators including the Chief Minister attended the meeting which was the fourth in a row in the past three days. After the recommendation of the EC, Governor of Jharkhand Ramesh Bais ordered the disqualification of House membership of Soren. Even after resigning Soren can stake claim to form government, because according to reports, the Governor’s order did not ban him from contesting elections.
