Imran Khan stumped opposition calls for early elections

New Delhi: Pakistan has witnessed a day full of political drama on Sunday. In a surprise move, Pakistan President dissolved the National Assembly and parliament on the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who stumped the whole nation and called for fresh elections in a TV broadcast after the National Assembly deputy speaker dismissed the no-trust session against the government as “unconstitutional”.

Opposition is citing the act of the Deputy Speaker as unconstitutional since he doesn’t hold any power to dissolve the Assembly. Meanwhile, President Arif Alvi’s move came just after Khan addressed the nation, “I call upon the people of Pakistan to prepare for elections.”
People and political commentators are saying that the whole political fiasco was well scripted. Since PM seeking fresh election remarks came almost at the same time when Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri, was busy dismissing the no-confidence motion in Parliament against the Khan-led PTI government as “unconstitutional”.

In yet another bizarre move after the DY speaker rejects the no-confidence vote the opposition has chosen Ayaz Sadiq as their own Speaker to hold its parallel session in parliament. Whereas the mighty establishment, the Pakistan Army distance itself from the political turbulence by saying that it has nothing to do with the political move.

Earlier in the day Fawad Choudhury, information minister of the PTI govt slammed the opposition’s no-trust move in Parliament as a “foreign conspiracy”. He has tweeted that Imran would continue as PM till elections are held, while the cabinet was dissolved.
Meanwhile, the opposition alliance has decided to move Supreme Court to challenge the unconstitutional move of the Deputy Speaker and President too who has given his assent to dissolve the Parliament.
