Bhopal: A heavy rain pummelled most areas in Madhya Pradesh, including its capital Bhopal in the past 48 hours, triggering a flood-like situation, sources said on Tuesday. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said that there would be more rains in the coming days, putting the state government on high alert. The weather office has put Chhindwara, Vidisha, Sehore, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Bhopal and 18 other districts on yellow alert. Hoshangabad district located on the banks of the Narmada has been the worst hit. Here, the river is flowing nine feet above the danger mark.

The district administration called the army to do rescue operations there. Aside from that, two units of the National Disaster Response force (NDRF) have been sent to the district where helicopters may also reach to assist the army to conduct the rescue operations. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the Narmada and its tributaries had crossed the danger in many areas. There is, however, no need to be panicked, as the government is ready to tackle any emergency situation, Chouhan said.
