Government will bring new law to regulate social media: Ram Madhav

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav said that social media has become so powerful that it can topple governments, create chaos and weaken democracy. And there is a need to find solutions to deal with it in the constitutional framework. Speaking at the launch of his new book ‘Because India Comes First’, Madhav said that democracy is under stress and facing new challenges with the emergence of non-political forces.

In an event organized by Prabha Khaitan Foundation, he said on Saturday evening that social media is so powerful that it can bring down governments and it is difficult to regulate because it is beyond the boundaries. These forces can propagate anarchy, which will weaken democracy, but there should be solutions within the constitutional framework. He said that the existing laws are not sufficient for this. New rules are needed to deal with and manage them. According to him, the government is already working in this direction.

Madhav’s response has come in the meantime, when there is a dispute between the government and Twitter over the blocking of accounts. Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has asked the micro blogging platform to follow Indian law.
