Guwahati: An incessant rain that hit Guwahati on Monday night triggered a landslide claimed the lives of four persons in Guwahati on Tuesday, official sources said. Deputy commissioner of Guwahati Pallav Gopal Jha said that four construction workers were buried in a landslide at Boragaon in the city. The mudslide fell on a house where the workers were sleeping in the early hours of Tuesday, he said.
According to sources in the State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), landslides occurred in six other places: Kharghuli, Hengerabari, Kamakhya, Silpukhuri and Chandmari Colony, but no loss of life was reported from anywhere. Nonstop heavy rains caused knee-deep and waist-deep water on all major roads and human settlements. There was a huge traffic gridlock on the water-logged roads.
