NationalDalit couple denied permission to tie the knot at temple in Karnataka

Chikkaballapur (Karnataka): At a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to woo the Dalit community, a Dalit family was refused permission to celebrate a wedding ceremony at the marriage hall of a temple at Gudibande town in Chikkaballapur area of Karnataka. The BJP is ruling the state.

A resident of Bramhanara Halli, Avulukondappa, approached the temple management for conducting the wedding ceremony at the hall of the temple. Temple secretary Machavalahalli Venkatarayappa said as the hall had already been booked, it would not be available. Nevertheless, it came to light that the hall was not booked on that day and it was not given to the couple as they belonged to the Dalit community.

Avulukondappa alleged that as he and his wife belong to Dalit community, they did not get the hall for holding the wedding ceremony. The couple had got married before a locked temple. They complained to the Tehsildar of Gudibande and the social welfare officer of the area about the incident. Immediately after the incident, several Dalit organisations staged a sit-in outside the Taluk, demanding action against the those who denied permission to the couple for wedding ceremony.
