This was the eleventh such attack on policemen in the past four months. The present incident took place on Friday. According to reports, three scooter-borne students – two boys and a girl – misbehaved with the woman constable who stopped them for violating traffic rules. No sooner had she raised objection to the misconduct than the girl kicked her in the abdomen several times.

Surprisingly, the incident took place when a team of traffic police was present at the spot. The trio was taken to the Ashoka Garden police station and several cases, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, were slapped on them, official sources said.

Station House Officer (SHO) of the Ashoka Garden police station said that the complainant was 27-year-old traffic constable Dipika Kushwaha. She said that she had been deployed at Prabhat Square on Friday along with sub-inspector Anwar Ali and others for checking vehicles.

The girl identified as Shubhangi Verma was driving her two-wheeler and her friends Ankit Mishra and Pratham Kumar were riding the pillion. As the trio violated the traffic norms, Dipika stopped their vehicle. On getting down from the vehicle, Shubhangi began to yell at the constable. The girl’s scooter carried the tag of police.

When the girl claimed that her uncle was a senior police officer, Dipika told her to talk to Ali. Subhangi also threatened Dipika to remove her from the job for stopping her. Ali told the girl that he would let her go only after talking to her uncle who she claimed to be a senior police officer. Nonetheless, instead of talking to her uncle, the girl dialled her father’s number. Meanwhile, Shubhangi assaulted Dipika, pulled her hair and broke her Mangalsutra.
