Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has been directed to give an interim relief of Rs 2 lakh to a woman who sustained serious injuries after a pet dog of Dogo Argentino breed bit her in August this year.
The poet dog attacked the woman Munni, a native of West Bengal, on August 11 when she was going to her place of work with her sister-in-law at Civil Lines in Gurugram. She was admitted to the civil hospital from where Munni was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
An FIR was registered at the Civil Line police station.
The district Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum has recently passed the order saying that if the civic body wants, they can recover the money from the dog owner who lives in civil lines in Gurugram, official sources said.
The forum also asked the civic body to form a policy for pet dogs within three months and take the dog into their custody and cancel the licence of its owner. The civic body also imposed a ban on keeping 11 breeds of foreign dogs and licences for keeping these dogs should be cancelled and canines taken into custody.
The foreign breed dogs which are banned include American pit-bull terriers, Dogo Argentino, Rottweiler, Neapolitan Mastiff, Boerboel, Presa Canario, Wolf dog, Bandog, American Bulldog, Fila Brasileiro and Cane Corso.
