New Delhi: The Congress has decided to a file a review petition in the Supreme Court within a week against the release of six convicts of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, party sources said on Monday.
The Supreme Court on November 11 directed the premature release of the six convicts, including Nalini Sriharan and RP Ravichandran. Both were serving life terms. Four others are Santhan, Murugan, Robers Payas and Jaya Kumar.
Party sources further said, “A fresh review application challenging the Supreme Court decision to release the convicts on the grounds set out in thee order will be filed on behalf of the party in the next few days.
As the government faced criticism from the Congress for releasing the convicts, they sought a few of its orders for premature release of the convicts in the case. It also noted that the Tamil Nadu government has recommended remission of the sentence of the convicts. Their conduct was satisfactory during their imprisonment, the apex court noted.
