Bhopal: The incidents of attack on men in khaki are rising in Madhya Pradesh, according to data prepared by the police department. On Saturday, a band of blackbuck poachers shot dead three policemen including a sub-inspector in a gunfight at Aron region in Guna district of the state.
The policemen who lost their lives in the attack were sub-inspector Neeraj Bhargav and constables Rajkumar Jatav and Sant Kumar Meena. The poachers ran away with an Insas assault rifle from one of the slain policemen, sources in the police department said. The murder of three policemen kicked up a political storm in the state with MP Congress Committee president Kamal Nath saying that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in the state had lost control over law and order.

Reacting to Nath’s statement, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit VD Sharma said that the place where the incident occurred belonged to Congress MP, Digvijaya Singh. Nath said, “The death of three policemen in Guna is very sad, extremely painful. These policemen were martyred in the line of duty. I bow to their sacrifice. Their martyrdom will not go in vain.”
Nath dressed down the government wishing to know the reasons for the criminals being so high in spirits in the regime of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Aside from Saturday’s incident, a dozen incidents of attacks on policemen have been reported this year. Three bike-borne youths punched a traffic constable in the face at Chhola area in Bhopal on May 10.
The constable said that the accused had abused him and when he stopped them asking the reasons for hurling abuses, one of them punched him in the face. The constable sustained serious injuries. Investigation officer Maqsood Ahmad Khan said that constable Satish Saronia was posted to traffic police station. In another incident, a paramedical staff working at a premier medical college and hospital in the Bag Sewania locality in Bhopal assaulted and tore off the uniform of two cops on May 8. That happened at the police station.
This was the tenth attack on policemen in the city. Similarly, on May 3, a couple hit a constable with a piece of stone in the head. On April 12, an auto-rickshaw driver and a vehicle owner allegedly blocked the road near Nadra bus stand in the Hanumanganj area.
When two women traffic constables asked them to lift the blockade they misbehaved with the women cops. On March 17, two youths allegedly attacked an on-duty cop in TT Nagar area in the city. Another such incident was reported from Kamala Nagar area on the same day.
Four youths allegedly misbehaved with an additional sub-inspector (traffic) deployed on traffic crane duty in Piplani area after the traffic team picked up a bike allegedly obstructing flow of vehicle movements in Indrapuri area. On February 27, three car-borne men allegedly manhandled a woman cop managing traffic and broke her baton.

A bike-borne man misbehaved with a female constable on February 1. Three persons attacked a sub-inspector and a constable on January 10 when they went to their house to search for them for attacking a farmer in Bilkhiria Bypass Square.
