Bill of 30% cut in salary of MPs introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: On Monday, a bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha to cut the salary of MPs by 30 percent for one year, which will be used to counter the situation arising out of the covid-19 epidemic.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi introduced the Salary, Allowances and Pension Amendment Bill 2020 of Members of Parliament in the lower house which will replace the Salaries, Allowances and Pension Ordinance 2020 of Members of Parliament. Joshi said that he is introducing a bill to amend the Salary, Allowances and Pension Act 1954 of Members of Parliament.

The ordinance received Cabinet approval on 6 April and came into force on 7 April. The ordinance stated that the corona virus epidemic has demonstrated the importance of quick relief and assistance and therefore some emergency steps are necessary to prevent the epidemic from spreading.
