National32-foot-high Ganesh idol made Of fig tree attracts many in TN

Chennai: A 32-foot-high idol of Ganesh made of a fig tree has become a centre of attraction in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district.  Eighty-three fig trees have been used to make the idol which will not be immersed, said a member of the Nagai Viswaroopa Vinayagar Committee which is organising the celebrations.

Fourteen artisans worked for eight months to make the idol. The member further said that they had spent Rs 1.5 crore to make the four-tonne statue which is standing on a chariot.

According to the president of the committee, the Hindus consider Ganesh very sacred and the fig tree is associated with Dattatreya.
