Bhopal (MP): Fifteen persons died and 25 suffered injuries after a private passenger bus fell from a bridge in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning, the police said.
According to reports, when the bus, carrying more than 50 people, was crossing Donagargaon bridge near the Dasanga area under the Oon police station, it fell off.
Immediately after getting information, the police, the officials of the district administration and ambulances reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The cranes were also pressed into service to lift the bus. Many passengers were taken out of the bus by breaking its windows. A group of villagers also helped the police in a relief and rescue operation.
According to Khargone superintendent of police Dharamveer Singh, 15 people were killed and 25 injured after a bus fell off the bridge.
The rescue operation is on, because it was very difficult to bring out the passengers from the badly mangled bus, he said.
As soon as the state government came to know of the incident, it immediately declared financial aid of Rs 4 lakh to each family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Those who received minor injuries in the incident will be given Rs 25,000, official sources said, adding that more information was awaited.
