Don’t worry, I am not here today to tell you how to do yoga. You can definitely find out videos on YouTube and Facebook from fitness experts who will guide you step-by-step about the process of performing yoga. I am here to tell you why Yoga is an actual way of staying healthy.
Let me quote here a real-life story of a friend who took Yoga seriously and changed her life for the better. Swati was a bubbly girl who loved eating junk foods like pizza, pani puri, sev puri, and oily food items a lot. Sweets were her favorite stress buster wherein she would like to consume a Dairy Milk or 5-star just like that in one gulp. She had no control over her diet and that affected her mood and thinking patterns as and as her age grew.
Swati took her diet randomly at any time and followed the same kind of lifestyle even when she reached the age of 25. Her sedentary lifestyle made her weigh almost 85 kgs and not only that, she got troubled with irregular menstrual cycles, anxiety, and severe acidity problems. Many people used to mock Swati for her weight and even criticized her for her looks. Swati felt very hurt all these years and decided that she should now take some steps to change her living patterns and overcome her health issues.
Swati decided to take one thing at a time. In school, Swati was taught Suryanamaskar and even she searched a YouTube video that helped her to start with the best form of Yoga and that is Suryanamaskar. Swati didn’t hurry up because she had found that whenever she did anything in an aggressive approach, she would then quit it. And Swati didn’t want to quit Yoga, so she took it slowly. Every morning, Swati would start with 5 Suryanamaskars, which eventually became 11 in a couple of months.
Swati was feeling refreshed as and as she started learning and performing other forms of Yoga through watching videos. She didn’t take up anything that will injure her physically and even hurt her emotionally for being too much difficult to work out. So, she started and continued with basic exercises of stretching, sit-ups, etc. which even today’s small children can do easily. However, Swati didn’t give up hope and continued her journey of Yoga for many years.
Naturally, with a good diet consumed at regular intervals, Swati reduced her weight from 85 to 80 and then 78 in a span of 6 years. Swati still hasn’t given up on walking, suryanamaskar, good diet and thinks that even in the lockdown, one can walk at home and take care of their health with good sleep and food. Her approach in life is whatever one takes up, it has to be as per their thinking and not imposed upon by someone else because that will not lead to giving up. Swati is now fit and happy with whatever she has achieved through living a balanced lifestyle.
