For Hindus, there are several pilgrimage locations in India. It is believed in Hinduism that people who visit such pilgrimage places once or regularly then they will attain moksha or salvation. Most of these places are located on the hills such as Vaishno Devi, Gangotri, Kedarnath Temple, and Amarnath Yatra. If you are planning for a trip to any of the above or any other pilgrimage site, here are some travel tips:

1) Choose a pilgrimage place that you want to go:
Don’t go by the recommendations of others but instead go to the spiritual place that you have been wanting to go to for a long time. My aunt being a South Indian wanted to visit Pandharpur and take blessings from the Vitthal Rukmini Mandir. Her relatives planned for a car trip and ensured that she visited the place and returned safely. On her return, she said every person is destined to visit at least one religious place in their lifetime and they should only listen to their heart rather than what is advertised or recommended to them.

2) Choose your medium of travel:
If you are staying nearby to a pilgrimage place, you can select the transportation mode accordingly. If you think you don’t have many days to travel by road or train, then you can opt to reach the place through airplane mode. Whatever it is, you need to check your budget, and the time available to you and go for the transport mode accordingly.
3) Pack your bags as per the season and your requirements:
If you are traveling in the summer season, then do carry the clothes and attire as per the season. If the season is winter, then carry extra clothes that will keep you warm. Remember the attire should be traditional and not western. Do not carry clothes that will make you look awkward in front of the temple priests. You can wear sarees or cotton salwar kameezes throughout your travel journey as they will help you do the rituals in the most beautiful way. For men, the best attire would be dhoti and kurta. You can carry shorts and pants to wear during your stay at the hotel or facility.
4) Keep some cash, coins, and old clothes:
During your journey, you will surely meet a lot of poor and needy people. They will be delighted if you provide them with some coins or cash or even your old clothes. You will get their blessings for a good life and thus, also feel good from within because you feel you have helped those in need.
5) Carry documents in physical and digital format:
You can carry the tickets, your identity documents, and a checklist to explore the places in both physical and digital formats. Also, carry a debit or credit card for extra shopping and your stay expenses. The documents if misplaced can at least be there in your smartphone or email to ensure that your travel is safe and provides a smoother experience.
