Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) in Ludhiana, Punjab has a new blood bank that has been dedicated only for dogs.
This unique initiative is first of its kind in northern India.
The blood bank has been launched after it was approved from the officials of Department of Biotechnology.
The idea is to provide good treatment and care for the dogs and improve their survival rates.
The blood bank has three separate sections for the donated blood such as Red Blood Cells (RBCs), plasma and platelets.
So far, 125 blood transfusions have occurred in dogs through the blood bank.
