Netaji’s Birth Anniversary Will Be Celebrated on January 23

In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “aim to highlight vital aspects of our history and culture,” Republic Day celebrations will begin on January 23 this year rather than January 24, along with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

It was unclear what this would imply right away. One possibility is that the government will include festivities commemorating Bose’s birth anniversary in the Republic Day celebrations every year. The central government declared January 23 as Parakram Diwas, or Day of Valour, last year.

August 14 is Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, October 31 is National Unity Day (birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel), November 15 is Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (birth anniversary of Birsa Munda), November 26 is Constitution Day, and December 26 is Veer Baal Divas (a tribute to Guru Gobind Singh’s four sons), according to the official, who requested anonymity.

According to Chandra Bose, Netaji’s cousin, the administration needs to grasp and execute his ideology in order to truly honour the freedom hero.

Chandra Bose, a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary this year, requesting that the freedom fighter’s image be printed on currency notes. He also urged that January 23 be declared a national holiday.
