We live in the coronavirus era where things seem so dark and pathetic at times.

If we watch television shows like Mahabharat and RadhaKrishn, we come across the adorable character of Lord Krishna who gives us so many life lessons.

As Krishna Janmashtami is nearing, here we bring some amazing facts about the festival.

In 2020, Krishna Janmashtami festival falls on 11 and 12 August.

Krishna Janmashtami is also addressed as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami.

The festival marks the birthday of Lord Krishna, who is believed to be the eighth form of Lord Vishnu.

As per the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism, the festival is very important and hence, celebrations include dance, drama of stories of Lord Krishna, fasting, preparing sweet and salt dishes that Lord Krishna likes.

Many temples of Lord Krishna or Vishnu have recitals of Bhagavata Purana and Bhagavad Gita.

In Maharashtra, the festival is celebrated as a social celebration called Dahi Handi, wherein youngsters come together to form Govinda pathaks and compete with each other to grab the prize money.
