Kartik Purnima or Kartika Purnima is a festival celebrated by people belonging to Hinduism, Sikhism, and even Jainism. The day of Kartik Purnima this year is on Tuesday, 8 November 2022. Kartik Purnima also has different names such as Tripuri Purnima, Tripurari Purnima, Deva-Diwali, Deva-Deepawali. Kartik Purnima is observed on the Purnima day or the 15th lunar day of Kartik month. It is the festival of the lights of the Gods.

According to the Vaishnava tradition, Kartik month is also called Damodara month, which is one of the different names of Lord Krishna. Kartik Purnima celebrations last for five days. The 5-day events of Kartik Purnima include Tulsi Vivah, Bhishma Panchaka, Vaikunth Chaturdashi, and Dev Diwali. On the day of Sharad Purnima in the Kartik month, the tradition of taking a holy bath starts, and the festival ends on Kartik Purnima. On this day, people come in huge numbers to Haridwar and Benaras ghats and take a sacred dip in the water, perform Aarti and get the blessings of Lord Vishnu.
It is believed that taking this snan or holy dip in the sacred water is very auspicious for the person. This bath is equal to doing 100 Ashvamegha Yagya. During the festival of Kartik Purnima, devotees keep a fast and eat only sattvic foods, and fruits, and consume milk. They abstain from eating eggs, meat, alcohol, onion, and garlic, among others.
